Alaina Bergsma, Miss Oregon USA 2012, 1st runner up for the Miss America crown came to LBCC for Spring Fling/Courtyard Lunch May 9.
Per the Miss Oregon USA website, Bergsma “is a talented athlete, student and a compassionate volunteer” and “as the captain of the University of Oregon Ducks Volleyball Team, Alaina led the Ducks to a successful 2011 season, making it all the way to the NCAA playoffs.”
Besides upholding a 3.7 GPA, Bergsma was named to the Pac-12 All Academic team and is involved in several events put on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, known as O Heroes. Volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, Bergsma participated in Read Across America and helped at various volleyball clinics and practices.
Bergsma resides in Wilsonville and loved watching the pageants growing up and decided to enter the pageant last year at 20 and won.
When asked about the pageant experience, Bergsma said she had the time of her life. Laughing with some of the nursing students at LBCC about being an almost has-been, Bergsma will be handing over her crown at Portland Sheraton Airport Hotel, November 24 & 25, 2012.
While on campus, Bergsma handed out autographed pictures and talked with students and answered questions casually.
Sharon Dodge, one of the nursing students pictured with Ms. Oregon stated, " I did not get to watch the pageant this year, yet I normally do. Nursing School keeps me really busy and absorbed. I feel it is uplifting to see a lovely woman such as Miss Oregon here locally and it reminds us that we are all lovely people in different ways. She is very motivating and wonderful to talk to. She is an inspiration to all of us here in Oregon and we are proud of her."

Bergsma was a true sportswoman with a great sense of humor, trying her hand at dunking.
